Guru Purnima 2019 Date & Time With Its Significance

This year 2019 Guru Purnima is celebrating on 16th of July. A partial lunar eclipse will also be on the 17th of July 2019.

Hindus across all over India is celebrating Guru Purnima with pujas and rituals. Guru Purnima is also known as ‘Vyas Purnima according to the Hindu scriptures on this day Ved Vyas was born, thus ‘Vyas Purnima.’ He is one of the most famous sages in Hindu mythology.

Ved Vyas is also the author of Mahabharata; not only did he write it but also he has played an essential role in the narration of the lives and times of a royal family of Hastinapur.

Vyas has also authored 18 Hindu ‘Purans.’ According to ‘Panchangs,’ the Hindu religious calendar during the month of Ashadha the full moon day is known as ‘Guru Purnima.’

According to the legends, the devotees offer prayers and gifts to their teachers and Gurus.

Guru Brahma Gurur Vishnu…Guru Devo Maheshwaraha…Guru Saakshat Para Brahma…Tasmai Sree Gurave Namaha.

It is advised to chant this shloka during the puja, which means “Guru is verily the representative of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. He creates, sustains knowledge and destroys the weeds of ignorance. I salute such a Guru.”

This year According to Drik Panchang, the Guru Purnima tithi falls on July 16.

Guru Purnima Tithi Ends: 03:07 on 17/Jul/2019

Partial Lunar eclipse will also take place on July 17, 2019.

Guru Purnima also holds a special significance in Buddhism. According to the legends, it was this day when Gautam Budha had attained enlightenment and had delivered his first sermon in Sarnath Uttar Pradesh.
