The Bhartiya Janata Party has done a huge reshuffle in the cabinet. Arjun Ram Meghwal has been appointed as the new Union Law Minister. Earlier, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju was handling this department, but now he will be looking at the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
The Rashtrapati Bhawan released a press release that stated, “Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State, be assigned the independent charge as Minister of State in the Ministry of Law and Justice in addition to his existing portfolios, in place of Shri Kiren Rijiju.”
Who is Arjun Ram Meghwal?

Arjun Ram Meghwal, the current Member of Parliament from Rajasthan, has been appointed as the new Union Law Minister. Meghwal replaced Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, and now be heading the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
Arjun Ram Meghwal was born on December 20, 1953, in a small village named Kishmidesar in Bikaner, Rajasthan. His mother’s name is Hira Devi, and his father’s name is Lakhu Ram Meghwal.

Meghwal is married to Pana Devi, and together the couple has four children: two sons, Ravi Shekhar Meghwal and Naveen Meghwal, and two daughters. He is a good player in badminton, and Madan Gopal Meghwal, who is a politician from the Indian National Congress, is his cousin. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju will now handle the Ministry of Earth Sciences.

Meghwal did his schooling from locally and later in 1977 he did his LLB from Dunagar College and then in 1979 he obained a Maseter’s degree in Arts and later he went to Philippines to obtain a Master’s in Business Administration degree from University of Philippines in Philippines.

In the year 1982, Meghwal gave the RAS (Rajasthan Administrative Service) and was appointed as Assistant Director in the Jila Udhyog Kendra there he worked as the General Manager of Jila Udhyog Kendra of Jhunjhnu, Dhaulpur, Rajsamvad, Jaipur, Alwar & Shriganganagar districts of Rajasthan.
In the year 1994, he was appointed as the Officer on Special Duty to Mr. Hari Shankar Bhabhra, then Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan.
It was the year 1999 when he was promoted to IAS officer in the Rajasthan cadre. During his tenure as an IAS, he worked in many administrative posts Deputy Secretary, Technical Education; Special Secretary, Higher Education; Managing Director, Rajasthan Laghu Udhyog Nigam Limited; Additional Commissioner; Commercial Tax Department; District Collector and District Magistrate, Churu.
He took voluntary retirement from the Indian Administrative Service to join politics.

In the year 2009, he was elected from Bikaner Constituency and took oath as a Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha. After that in 2014, he got re-elected from the Bikaner Constituency for the 16th Lok Sabha.
During his 2nd term as an MP, he was Chief Whip of Bhartiya Janta Party in Lok Sabha. He was also nominated by the speaker of Lok Sabha as the Chairman of the House Committee, Lok Sabha. In May 2019, Meghwal became the minister of state for parliamentary affairs and the minister of state for Culture.
In 2023 he has become the Union Minister of Law replacing Kiren Rijiju.
