But Amartya Sen’s own daughter, Nandana Deb Sen, has debunked all the rumors that were surfacing online. Nandana took to Twitter and shared a picture of herself with her father, Amartya Sen. She captioned it, “Friends, thanks for your concern, but it’s fake news: Baba is totally fine.
Several reputable publications broke the news of Bharat Ratna Amartya’s passing after seeing a social media post by economic scholar Claudia Goldin. Nevertheless, it appears that the post is unrelated to Goldin and was shared by a phony account created in May 2023.
About Amartya Sen
Amartya Sen is a well-known Indian economist and philosopher. He was born on November 3, 1933, in Santiniketan, Bengal, British India. He came from a very literate family; his father was Ashutosh Sen, who served as the Chairman of the West Bengal Public Service Commission, the Development Commissioner in Delhi, and a Professor of Chemistry at Dhaka University.
His mother, Amita Sen, was the daughter of Kshiti Mohan Sen, an eminent Sanskritist and scholar of ancient and medieval India. His family moved to India in 1945, before the partition of India and the formation of Bangladesh.
