The preparations for the Indian Premier League 2023 are in full-swing. The mini auctions took place on December 23, 2022, in Kochi, Kerala, and 10 franchises made their bid on a total of 405 players, including 273 Indians and 132 foreigners.
This year’s auction came as a golden festival for foreign players as top bids were made on them. A new record was also made as 24-year-old English all-rounder Sam Curran became the highest-bidding player in IPL history and was bought by the Punjab Kings for Rs. 18.5 crore.
Interestingly, the top 5 bids were on foreign players, with Curran being followed by Cameron Green (17.5 cr.), Ben Stokes (16.25 cr.), Nicholas Pooran (16 cr.) and Harry Brook (13.25 cr.).
Harry Brook became the expensive player bought by Sun Rises Hyderabad, and after the franchise won the bid on him, the reaction of its owner, Kavya Maran, went viral as she was overjoyed after the Orange Army bagged the young English batsman for a whopping amount of Rs 13.25 crore.
Maran is a well-known name in the IPL and often grabs attention due to her beauty and charm whenever she comes out at the IPL auctions. Last year, she was heavily trolled for releasing Davi Warner, but this time, she started the auction bidding highest on Brook and didn’t stop until she won the bid.
