Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, suspended its leader Seema Patra after the news of her having been torturing her maid for years, came to the light.
Seema who was the member of the working committee of the Party’s Mahila Morcha as well as the Jharkhand convenor of “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” campaign, has been accused of beating as well as detaining the 28-years old maid Sunita, in her Ashok Nagar resident in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
The victim belongs to a tribal community and is a native of Gumla district of Jharkhand. She was working at Seema’s residence for the past 8 years where she was often beaten with Iron rods, hot pans and regularly abused by her employer.
Sunita is currently under-treatment at RIMS, Ranchi and people were shocked after a video of her from the hospital, narrating the story of what she had gone through, went viral on social media.

How did the Matter Come to the Light?
All credits of Sunita’s rescue goes to the suspended BJP leader’s son Ayushman, who had also been witnessing the brutality by his mother on the poor maid. Vivek Anand Baskey, who works as a Station Master in the Department of Personnel & Administrative Reforms and is also a friend of Ayushman, told the media that Ayushman that his mother is “going to kill the maid”.
He also sent some videos to Baskey to show in which condition his maid was living after which she was rescued by the police. In fact, in the viral video, the victim also said that if she is alive today, it is just because of Ayushman.
As per the FIR, when Ayushman complained about the way Sunita was being treated, Seema declared him mentally unstable and forcefully got him admitted to the Ranchi Institute of Neuro- Psychiatry and Allied Sciences.

Accused Seema Patra Arrested for the Brutality
A day after being suspended from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accused BJP leader and the wife of retired IAS officer Maheshwar Patra, Seema Patra was finally arrested on Wednesday, August 31, 2022.
She was booked under the Schedule Caste and Scheduled Tribe Prevention of Atrocities Act (to prevent the atrocities and hate crimes against SC/ST) on the basis of victim Sunita’s ordeal. Patra will be taken for a Medical Test and later in the day will be produced in court, as per the Police sources.
