What is Bharat Rice?
The government launched the Bharat Rice brand at Kartavya Path, which will be provided directly to consumers at a subsidized rate. The Bharat rice will be sold at a subsidiary rate of Rs 29 per kg. The food and consumer affairs minister, Piyush Goyal, said that the government wants to make sure that daily food items are provided to common people at a reasonable price.
Also, Bharat rice is launched as a relief amid the 15% rise in the retail price of the grains in the last year. Similarly, the government launched Bharat Atta, which is sold for Rs 27.50 per kg, and Bharat Chana, which is sold at Rs 60 per kg. The government took this initiative to control the retail price of the grains.
How and where to buy Bharat Rice?
As the government has launched Bharat Rice at a subsidiary price of Rs 29 per kg, the question arises: how to buy Bharat Rice? For those who don’t know, initially, consumers can buy Bharat Rice from mobile and physical outlets of the three central cooperative agencies, Kendriya Bhandar, the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED), and the National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India (NCCF).
The Food Corporation of India (FCI) will provide 5,00,000 metric tons of rice to the three central agencies, which will pack the rice into 5 kg and 10 kg and sell it further. Later, the Bharat rice supply will be expanded to retail outlets and e-commerce platforms. The Bharat rice will be available for consumers only on February 2024.
