Prime Minister Modi has done a big announcement that Indian Professionals can renew their work visa without traveling abroad. Indians who are working in the US will be given the facility to renew their H-1B Visa in the US Itself.
While addressing the Indian Diaspora, PM Modi said,” America’s new consulates will be opened in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. It has now been decided that the H-1B visa renewal can be done in the US itself.” This decision came after a bilateral meeting between PM Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden.
In addition to this, India will open a new consulate in Seattle this year, as well as consulates in two other American cities. This action followed the US Department of State’s statement that it will later this year begin a trial program to decide on domestic renewals of some petition-based temporary work visas, which was warmly received by both nations.
What is H1-B Visa?
The H-1B Visas are employer-sponsored visas. H-1B is a temporary work visa that allows foreign workers to go to the United States and work for American companies. The timeline for an H-1B visa is three years but can be extended up to six years. Some exceptions also allow applicants to further extend their visas, depending on the type of work being done.
One of the few visas, the H-1B, allows the visa holder’s family members to accompany them while they are in the country. To do this, the dependent family members must apply for H4 visas, which allow them to enroll in schools and acquire social security numbers.
Also, dependent family members with H4 visas can legally work in the country. But the only drawback is that the H4 visa will only be valid for as long as the accompanying H-1B visa is valid.
Renewal of H-1B Visa
According to the recent statement of PM Modi, now the H1B visa renewal can be done in the US itself. The renewal of H-1B visas is part of the people-to-people initiative. This will smooth out the process of H-1B visa renewal for several Indians who are working in the US on an H-1B visa.
