The results of the 2022 Presidential election have been declared and as expected, NDA’s nominee Droupadi Murmu has won the battle by defeating opposition’s nominee Yashwant Sinha.
Murmu is going to succeed Ram Nath Kovind to become the 15th President of the Republic of India as well as the first president from the Tribal community. Once she takes oath as the President of India on July 25, 2022, she will be the youngest president to date and the first to be born after independence.
Votes Cast on Her Favor
The counting of the votes to elect the 15th President of India started earlier on July 21, 2022 in New Delhi’s Parliament House. The election took place on July 18 across all state assemblies along with the Parliament House with 99.14 voter turnout as 4,796 MPs and MLAs cast their votes.
Murmu got a total of 6,76,803 votes while her opponent Yashwant Sinha garnered 3,80,177 votes. As many as 17MPs and 104 MLAs from the opposition camp have crossed votes for Murmu. The votes of 5 MPs were invalidated.
Out of 4,754 votes polled, 4701 were valid and 53were invalid. The quota for a candidate to be elected as the President was 5,28,491 and Droupadi Murmu secured 2824 first preference votes- value of which is 3,80,177 while 1877 first preference votes secured by Sinha value 3,80,177.
Murmu, 64, won by an overwhelming margin against Sinha after receiving over 64% valid votes in a day-long counting of ballots of MPs and MLAs, comprising the electoral college to succeed Ram Nath Kovind to become the 15th President of India.

About Droupadi Murmu’s Political Background
From the state of Odisha, a woman named Droupadi Murmu is an Indian politician and member of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
In the Indian Presidential Election 2022, she was chosen as the official nominee of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance. From the year 2015 to 2021, she has served as the ninth governor of Jharkhand.

Murmu is 64 years old and has trouble with everything. She was married to Shyam Charann Murum and he died due to some health issues. The couple had 3 children, 2 sons and one girl.
One of her sons died under mysterious circumstances in 2009 and the other in 2012 due to a road accident. She has a daughter who is married and is happily living in Bhubaneswar. As a girl from an Odisha small district Mayurbhanj, she has completed her degree with lots of consequences.

Work Background of Draupadi Murmu
Jharkhand’s first governor, born on June 20, 1948, Draupadi Murmu is a common Santhal tribesperson. She began her teaching and was one of the junior assistants at the irrigation department in Odisha.
She worked as a researcher in the Shri Aurobindo Integral Education college without charging any money, in 1997 and was elected to the Rairangpur constituency twice, in 2000 and 2009, after serving as vice president of the BJP’s scheduled tribe morcha. She has also handled different ministries in Odisha like the transport and commerce ministry, animal husbandry, and many other multiple departments.
