The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested three Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists, one of them being Mohammad Shahnawaz. He was one of the most listed suspected terrorists of NIA (National Investigation Agency).
Shahnawaz had a cash prize in his name of Rs. 3 lakh. Last month NIA released pictures of Shahnawaz, wanted in the Pune ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) module case.
The NIA, the Delhi Police, and the Pune Police conducted searches last night, during which the other two of Shahnawaz’s terrorist companions were apprehended. In Shahnawaz’s home, authorities discovered evidence during the raids, including a liquid chemical used to make improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
As a result of the investigation, it was discovered that Shahnawaz and the other members of his module had been given the go-ahead to carry out terrorist attacks in Delhi and other parts of north India.
Who is Shahnawaz’s Wife Basanti Patel?
According to a report by OpIndia, Shahnawaz is married to a Gujarat-born Hindu woman named Basanti Patel. After they were married, he persuaded his wife to convert to Islam, changing her name to Maryam.
Shahnawaz, an engineer by profession, was sought after in relation to the ISIS Pune module investigation. He did his mining engineering at the prestigious Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology. He is originally from Delhi but has moved to Pune.
Shahnawaz’s Links with ISIS
Further inquiry showed the affiliation of Shahnawaz with ISIS as a member of a sleeper cell after they were initially dismissed as small-time crooks. This changed the emphasis of the probe, which prompted the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) to assume control.
According to the investigation, one of the terrorists in the city kept bomb-making materials in a small laboratory at his home. The Delhi Police also detained Rizwan Abdul Haji Ali, Abdulla Faiyaz Shaikh, and Talha Liyakat Khan, three more ISIS militants.
