On July 16, The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced West Bengal’s Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar as the NDA’s vice-presidential candidate. In the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Dhankhar filled his nominations.
Who is Jagdeep Dhankhar?
Jagdeep Dhankhar was born on 18 May, 1951 in Kithana Village, Jhunjhunu District, Rajasthan to The late Shri Ch. Gokal Chand and the late Smt. Kesari Devi who were farmers.

Jagdeep Dhankhar schooling
Jagdeep Dhankar did his early schooling from Classes 1 to 5 in village Kithana, at the Government Primary School. Afterwards from Class 6 he took admission in the Government Middle School,Gharshana.
In 1962, after successfully passing the Sainik School, Chittorgarh Entrance Examination he got admitted to Class 5 in that School on Full Merit Scholarship Passed from Sainik School, Chittorgarh, after taking the Indian School Certificate Examination organized by the Cambridge University.
Jagdeep Dhankhar College Education
After completing his school education Jagdeep Dhankhar took admission in the Maharaja’s College, Jaipur, affiliated to the University of Rajasthan. From there he did his graduation in B.Sc (Honors) Physics.
For his further education Dhankar took admission in LLB course in the University of Rajasthan and passed out in the year 1979.
Jagdeep Dhankhar Advocate career
Jagdeep Dhankhar got enrolled with Bar Council of Rajasthan as an Advocate in the year 1979.
Then he got designated as Senior Advocate by the High Court of Judicature for Rajasthan in the year 1990.
From 1990 Jagdeep Dhankhar started practicing primarily in the Supreme Court and his focus area of litigation have been Steel, Coal, Mine and International Commercial Arbitration, amongst others.
Jagdeep Dhankhar Political career
In the year 1989 Dhankhar was Elected to the 9th Lok Sabha from Jhunjhunu Parliamentary Constituency and after that he became the Union Minister and Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee in the year 1990.
Later he got Elected to the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from Kishangarh Constituency in Ajmer district in the year 1993 to 1998.
He has been a part of several important committees in the Lok Sabha and the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. He was also a part of a delegation as Deputy Leader of a Parliamentary Group to the European Parliament.
In 2019, Dhankhar became the governor of West Bengal and he was the 28th governor of Bengal, and succeeded Keshari Nath Tripathi

Jagdeep Dhankhar Family
Jagdeep Dhankhar got Married to Smt Sudesh Dhankhar, a Post Graduate in Economics from Banasthali Vidyapeeth in the year 1979. She is the daughter of Shri Hoshiyar Singh and Smt. Bhagwati. Smt. Sudesh Dhankhar has keen interest in social work and organic farming, child education and upliftment.
Jagdeep and Sudesh Dhankhar also have a daughter named Kamna and she is married to Kartikeya Vajpayee.
Jagdeep Dhankar and Bengal Government conflict
The TMC has often accused him of acting as an “agent of the BJP ”. Meanwhile Dhankhar believes that he has gone by the rule book and the Constitution in pointing out issues to the Mamata Banerjee government and the state legislature.
