Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently in the United States, and a video of the African-American Singer Mary Millben is going viral on social media. In the video, Mary Millben is seen touching PM Modi’s feet after her performance at the Ronald Reagan Center in Washington, DC.
Mary performed India’s national anthem in the presence of PM Modi and the Indian diaspora. After the performance, she greeted the Prime Minister with a ‘Namaste’ and went on to touch his feet out of respect.
Although this is not the first time Mary has shown her love for India, Last year, during India’s 75th Independence Day, Mary came to India and performed the Indian National Anthem.
Who is Mary Millben?
40-year-old Mary Millben is an African-American singer, and she is also the Cultural Ambassador of the United States of America. Mary is very well known for performing ‘Om Jai Jagadish Hare’ and ‘Jana Gana Mana, and she is the first African American performer to be invited to India by the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR).
M. R. Rangaswami, the founder of Indiaspora, invited Millben to India during the 75th Independence Day, and she opened the forum by singing the Indian national anthem.

Last year, during her visit to India, Mary Millben shared a special statement in which she said she was thrilled to experience this treasured motherland, celebrate her meaningful relationship with India and Indian communities across the world, and highlight the important democratic alliance between the United States and India during this important observance of India’s Independence.
Millben also added, “As I prepare for my first trip to India, my heart’s sentiments echo Dr. King’s words, ‘To other countries, I may go as a tourist, but to India, I come as a pilgrim.”
