The ongoing prophet row is worsening day by day with violent protests happening in many parts of the country which led to the destruction of public as well as private properties, resulting in the deaths and several being injured.
The controversy started after ex- BJP leader Nupur Sharma allegedly passed some derogatory remakes against Prophet Muhammad in a debate over the Gyanvapi Mosque on a news channel.
As the video went viral, on social media, India faced a huge criticism from Gulf Nations demanding an open apology from the Government of India. Also, people from these countries started trending a hashtag #BoycottIndianProducts on twitter.
Following this development, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party suspended its prominent leader Nupur Sharma from the party along with BJP media Chief Naveen Jindal who also posted something controversial about the Prophet.
Since the matter started, suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma’s name is continuously making headlines. Along with her, the other person whose name is also doing rounds all over social media is Mohammad Zubair, the man behind making this issue international.
Who is Mohammed Zubair?
Ever since the Prophet controversy came into limelight along with Nupur Sharma, Mohammad Zubair’s name is also trending on twitter. Zubair is the man behind sharing the clip of the debate on which Sharma passed a controversial remark against the Prophet and his wife Aisha.
Mohammad Zubair is the co-founder of an Indian fact checking website Alt News, which he founded along with former software engineer Pratik Sinha, the son of a trained physicist, lawyer, human rights activist and the co-founder as well as president of Jan Sangharsh Manch, Mukul Sinha.
Zubair and Sinha founded the Alt News website Feb 9, 2017 to combat a phenomenon of fake news. The team of Alt News has also written a book titled “India Misinformed: The True Story” published by HarperCollins which was released in March 2019.
People Demanding the Arrest of Mohammed Zubair
After her video went viral on social media, suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma claimed that she and her family were receiving death threats after Zubair allegedly shared a heavily edited video. She also shared some screenshots of the death threats she was receiving and said that if anything bad happens to her then the whole responsibility will be of Zubair. However, he claimed that it was unedited and later posted a longer video clip.
The supporters of Nupur Sharma demands the arrest of Zubair and are are trending a hashtag #ArrestZubair on Twitter. They also posted some of the old screenshots of his tweets, in which he was mocking Hindu deities. After these screenshots have gone viral, Zubair has also deleted his social media account.
This Zubair is the kind of ‘elite Muslim intellectual’ that provides cover to street violence by Muslims. He mocks Hindus relentlessly, but dogwhistles his co-religionists to take offence at perceived slights to Islam. Deserves to rot in a UP jail for a few years! #ArrestZubair
