The Uttar Pradesh government has announced that November 25, will be considered “No Non-Veg Day.” The step was taken on the birth anniversary of Sadhu TL Vaswani, and he strongly upheld the universal practice of vegetarian living.
The government of Uttar Pradesh officially released the statement, which stated that November 25 is declared as No Non-Vegetarian Day on the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of Sadhu TL Vaswani. All slaughterhouses and meat shops will remain closed on the day.

Who was Sadhu TL Vaswani?
Sadhu TL Vaswani’s full name is Sadhu Thanwardas Lilaram Vaswani. He was born on November 25, 1879, in Hyderabad, Sindh, into a Sindhi family. At a young age, he attended the Academies of Hyderabad and Sind.
Sadhu TL Vaswani also learned the sacred texts called the Upanishads from Brahmabandhav Upadhyay. Sadhu Vaswani passed his matriculation and got his B.A. from the University of Bombay in 1899. Later, in 1902, Vaswani earned his M.A. degree from the University of Bombay at the age of 22.
Sadhu TL Vaswani Career
Sadhu TL Vaswani wanted to devote his life to the service of God, but his mother wanted him to earn and be successful. In order to fulfill his mother’s dream, Sadhu Vaswani joined as a teacher at Alma Mater, Union Academy.
Vaswani also accepted a position as a professor of history and philosophy at Metropolitan College in Calcutta. Vaswani’s mother wanted to get him married, but Sadhu Vaswani vowed to remain a Brahmachari, and he never got married.
Sadhu TL Vaswani left his job at the age of 40 after his mother’s death. As he fulfilled his mother’s dream of earning and being successful, He raised the voice for education and the liberation of women. He inaugurated the Mira School in 1933, which marked the Mira Movement in Education.
Vaswani has also written various books like Young India: India’s Adventure, India Arisen: Awake, Apostles of Freedom, and more. He died at the age of 86 on January 16, 1966.
