The Federation of Karnataka State Private Transport Association declared a “Bengaluru Bandh” on September 11. As a part of the “Bengaluru Bandh,” all private passenger vehicles will be off the road.
Several schools have already declared a holiday. As per the latest updates, the Federation of Karnataka State Private Transport Association had a meeting with the Government of Karnataka on September 9, 2023, and the final decision about the “Bengaluru Bandh” was taken after the meeting.
Bengaluru Bandh on September 11
The ‘Shakti Scheme’, which the Karnataka government started in June 2023, is the target of the protest. The Shakti program allows women to ride non-premium government buses for free.
However, the owners of the carriers contend that this scheme has significantly reduced their income in order to be compensated by the government. A total of 32 transport unions in Bengaluru, including those that represent autorickshaws, buses, taxis, and cabs, have united under one federation and have issued a strike call.
Nevertheless, this strike call is not the first of its type. They made a similar plea in July in opposition to the Shakti scheme.
Why Bengaluru Schools are Closed on 11 September?
Several Bengaluru schools have declared a holiday on Monday. The reason is that most of the students come by private vans and private transport, and they are all part of the strike. So, it caused a lot of inconvenience to students and parents, and in view of that, a few Bengaluru schools have decided to close on Monday.
However, the government has not given any orders for all the schools to be closed. Only a few schools have sent circulars to parents stating they will be closed on Monday as a section of their students is dependent on private vans.
Are Metros & Cabs also closed on September 11?
As part of the strike, private taxis, cabs, private buses, and all the other private transport facilities will not operate on Monday. But all the emergency services, like ambulances and government buses, Metros will operate as they are. However, the business owners will have the liberty to decide whether they want to continue their operations on Monday or not.
