Due to a recent outbreak of the Nipah virus in Kerala, the state government has taken the precautionary measure of temporarily closing all educational institutes. This encompasses schools, colleges, and tuition centers, with the most impacted region being Kozhikode.
This isn’t the first instance of Kerala schools facing closure. In the past, schools have been closed due to various reasons, including an increase in COVID-19 cases and alerts for heavy rainfall. The Nipah virus infection has now been identified four times in the state. In Kozhikode, it was found in 2018 and 2021, while in Ernakulam, it was found in 2019. According to studies by the World Health Organization and ICMR, these illnesses can spread beyond Kozhikode and affect the entire state.
According to Veena George, the health minister of the state, there are already 1,080 people on the contact list of infected people, and 130 more people have been added to it today. 327 of those on the list are health professionals.

In addition to educational institutions, the Beypore Harbor, located in the Kozhikode region, has also been directed to suspend its operations until further instructions are provided.
