About the SSC Stenographer Exam

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) every year conducts the SSC Stenographer examination for Stenographer grades “C” and Grade “D”. As it is the only exam held by the SSC for stenographers, thousands of candidates apply for the position.

Candidates who qualify for all the steps of the selection procedure get jobs in Group C and Group D non-gazetted posts in various ministries/departments/organisations of the Government of India.

SSC Stenographer Online Application 2023

The SSC Stenographer 2023 Online Application is available on the official website of the Staff Selection Commission. The deadline for submitting an online application is August 23, 2023, while the application correction window will open on August 24, 2023.

SSC Stenographer 2023 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must be well-informed about the SSC Stenographer 2023 Eligibility Criteria before applying for recruitment. It depends on the components including Educational Qualification, nationality, age group, age relaxation, etc.

The basic SSS stenographer eligibility is that candidates should be between the ages of 18 and 27 and must have completed their 12th grade from any recognised board.

Nationality

To be eligible for the SSC Stenographer examination, the candidates need to be either a citizen of India or:

  • A subject of Nepal, or
  • A subject of Bhutan, or
  • A Tibetan refugee who migrated to India before January 1, 1962, or
  • A person who migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, and East African countries including Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam
  • The candidates, other than Indian citizens, must possess a certificate of eligibility issued in their favour by the Government of India.

Educational Qualification (as of 23/08/2023)

The required SSC Stenographer qualification 12th pass or an equivalent examination from a recognised board. Candidates who haven’t acquired the essential qualifications are not eligible to apply for the recruitment.

SSC Stenographer Age Limit (as on 01/08/2023)

As per the SSC Stenographer age limit rule for Grade C, candidates should be between 18 to 30 years old as of 01/08/2023. For Grade D the age limit is between 18-27 years. Candidates who belong to reserved categories will get a relaxation on the upper age limit.

The age limit for SSC stenographers in Group C and Group D is given below:

SSC Stenographer 2023 Selection Process

As per the guidelines of the Staff Selection Commission, the SSC Stenographer Selection Process consists of two stages CBT and skill test. It is important for candidates to know all the stages and prepare accordingly in order to get the final selection.

Candidates are invited to the document verification round after passing the first two stages of the qualifying test.

SSC Stenographer 2023 Exam Pattern

The SSC Stenographer Exam is divided into two parts, the first being a computer-based test and the second being a Shorthand/Stenography Skill test. Check out the SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern for both stages.

SSC Stenographer CBT Exam Pattern

The first level is the Group C and Group D online written test that consists of multiple-choice questions. The SSC Stenographer Exam Pattern for CBT consists of a total of 200 questions, worth one mark per question, which are asked in the examination. Also, there will be a negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer. The duration of the exam is 2 hours.

Shorthand/Stenography Skill Test

The SSC Stenographer Skill Test is done on both paper and computer. The candidates will be dictated a passage of 80 and 100 words per minute for Groups D and C, respectively.

SSC Stenographer 2023 Admit Card

The SSC Stenographer admit card 2023 for the online written exam will be out in the 4th week of September 2023 and the SSC Stenographer Tier 1 exam will be conducted on the 12th and 13th October 2023. You can follow the steps given below to download your admit card.

  • Go to the SSC official website, www.ssc.nic.in.
  • Click on the “SSC Stenographer Admit Card Download” link.
  • Now, enter the required credential such as Roll. No./Registration No. and Date of Birth/Password in the login portal and press the “Summit” button.
  • Now, the SSC Stenographer Grade “C” and Grade “D” Admit Card will appear on the screen.
  • Download the admit card and print a hard copy of it.

SSC Stenographer 2023 Result

The SSC Stenographer result of the Computer-based Test will be released 20–25 days after the examination is conducted. Before the declaration of the result, the SSC will release the answer key to the examination.

The candidates who qualify for the online examination will be called for a stenography test. After conducting the skill test, the Staff Selection Commission will release the final result on its official website, www.sss.nic.in.

  • Visit the SSC official website and click on the link “SSC Stenographer Result for Grades “C” and “D.”
  • Now, the PDF document will appear in a new window.
  • You can find your name using “Ctrl+F.”
  • If you get the final selection, your name will appear on the merit list.

SSC Stenographer 2023 Cut-off

The SSC Steno Cut-off will be released after the announcement of the SSC Steno result. The cut-off for both Grade C and Grade D will be published separately on the official website of the SSC. Only those candidates will meet the required cut-off will move to further rounds.

SSC Stenographer Salary

The SSC Stenographer Salary for Group C is higher than Group D. The SSC Stenographer Grade ‘C’ pay scale is 9300-34800 while the grade pay is INR 4200 (Pay band 2). The gross salary for Grade C is Rs.50,682/-

The SSC Stenographer Grade ‘D’ pay scale is 5200-20200 while the grade pay is 2400 (Pay Band 1) making the gross salary for Grade D INR 37,515.

Candidates selected for the post of SSC Steno Group ‘C’ and ‘D’ also get the House Rent Allowance (HRA), Dearness Allowance (DA), and Traveling Allowance (TA) apart from their basic pay.
