Father’s Day 2022 is quickly approaching, and a text urging people to enter the ‘Heineken Beer Father’s Day Contest 2022’ has gone public on WhatsApp.
The scam message says that a WhatApp user can win 5,000 coolers of beer and includes a link that, if clicked, can expose one’s private information. WhatsApp users have been warned about the scam and advised not to click any links.

Heineken and WhatsApp issue free beer scam warnings
Heineken has tweeted an alert about the fraud, confirming that it has been acknowledged by law enforcement. WhatsApp, for its portion, has advised users not to share their PIN codes with others and to enable two-step identification for added security.
Forwarding to friends amplifies the scam
According to Jake Moore, a global cybersecurity advisor at ESET, “People should always err on the side of caution and avoid even checking the links, as this is often all that is required to spread the message, strengthening the scam and making it more difficult to control.
If you followed the link and forwarded the message, it’s a smart idea to inform your contacts that this could be a security violation and that they should not tap on it.”
The rule of thumb to remember is to be careful of things that seem too good to be true. Furthermore, it is becoming more popular for it to be a scam. Please do not reply to the free beer for Father’s Day message in this case, or you may end up with a very expensive drink.
