10 days auspicious festival Ganesh Mahotsav 2023 starts on 19th September this year, according to the Hindu Calendar this festival is celebrated on Bhadrapad month’s Shukla Paksha Chaturthi.
Lord Ganesh’s devotees believe that there is something like a superpower in the devotion of beloved Ganesha, most of the Hindu people start any function or ceremony with Ganesh Puja and this is the season of Puja-Aradhana of Lord Ganesha, the festival starts with Ganesh Murti situated at home, Visarjan after ten days.
These ten days (Ganesh Mahotsav or Ganesh Janmotsav) are celebrated with rallies, dance on Govinda Songs, playing colors, and several ways to celebrate the Birth Anniversary of Lord Ganesha across the nation, mostly Maharasthra people celebrate it with joy, Bollywood Industry people have great faith on this occasion.
Gujarat, Odisha, Goa, Uttarakhand, UP are other states where Ganesh Mahotsav is celebrated with joy and happiness. According to Indian mythology, this is the history behind praying to Ganesha.
Ganesh Chaturthi History & Significance

Once Goddess Parvathi asked her son Ganesha to guard chambers where she was taking a bath inside, she just created a baby using sandalwood paste, so Shiva was unaware that he is their son. An obedient son is following the orders but Lord Shiva avoids Ganesha’s instructions, a heated argument took place there and Shiva got angry over a child who was stopping him to meet his own wife.
Angry Shiva cuts the head of Ganesha, as Parvati saw this heartwrenching scene, got furious, and gave the ultimatum to the God Shiva that makes her son alive otherwise she will destroy the whole universe. After which Shiva fixed a baby elephant face on Ganesha’s body, this is believed that since fearless Ganesha worshiped in Sanatan Dharma.
There is another very interesting story to celebrate Ganesh Mahotsav is, once Shiva-Parvati asked to race their sons Kathikeya and Ganesha, the one who will complete running around the world will be declared the winner. On one side Karthikeya starts racing to the world while slow and lazy looking Ganesha just took a round of his parents Shiva-Parvati, and said they are meant to world to him.
