The birthday of Lord Krishna is celebrated with full ardour and fervour all across the country and this year it will begin on August 18. The birthday of Lord Krishna is known as ‘Krishna Janmashtami’ and this day is also known as Gokulashtami and Lord Krishna was the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
Krishna Janmashtami is also the symbol of victory of good over evil. As lord Krishna ended the evil Kansa who was the brother of Devaki and he killed the 7 new-born children of Devaki, because it was destined that the 8th Child of Devaki and Vasudev will end Kansa.

Like any other festival in Hinduism, Janmashtami also doesn’t have a fixed date and it is celebrated in accordance with Hindu Calender. It is believed that Lord Krishna was born at midnight in the Rohini Nakshatra and it falls in the month of August.

According to Hindu Calendar Janmashtami is marked on the eighth day of the dark fortnight in the month of Bhadrapada and this year Ashtami Tithi will begin at 09:20 pm on August 18 and end at 10:59 pm on August 19, 2022.

On Krishna Janmashtami the devotees of Lord Krishna observe fast for the whole day and a baby idol of Lord Krishna is placed in a cradle and on this day the Krishna devotees worship the baby avatar of Lord Krishna.
It is believed that Lord Krishna loves butter and milk so his devotees offer him a lot of dishes made with milk and butter.
Before breaking the long-day fast, The Krishna Devotees perform Bhajan, Kirtan, and Aartito to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna and people also dress up their children as Radha and Krishna and perform on different songs to get blessings from Lord Krishna.
And the devotees break their fast after Puja and after consuming the prasad.
