In India National Nutrition Week is celebrated every year from September 1st to September 7th. This week is celebrated to raise awareness regarding proper eating habits and Nutrition.

According to Global Hunger Index Report, in the year 2021 India ranked 101st among 116 Countries and most of the deaths of children under the age of is caused due to Malnutrition.

This week is observed to educate people about healthy and nutritious food. By adopting healthy eating habits we can save ourselves and others from several diseases as good and nutritious food helps us in fighting diseases from within.

In the year 1975, The members of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, then called as the American Dietetic Association (ADA), started the National Nutrition Week in March in the United States of America. This week was observed to raise awareness among the public about the importance of good nutrition in life.

This initiative got an amazing response and the Indian government also got inspired with this and decided that Indians will also have their own National Nutrition Week and first time in 1982, National Nutrition Week was introduced in India with the purpose of solving the problem of malnutrition in India.

After that the Indian government launched several schemes and programs to eliminate malnutrition and less nutrition among the Indian people.  The efforts done by the Indian government and other Organisations have seen success too and have definitely helped in bringing down the malnutrition percentage but still there is a lot that needs to be done.

The National Nutrition Week holds a great significance because it is a week where more and more people try to know about good nutrition and the government and other agencies drive different  competitions and programmes during this week to share information with people about proper nutrients.

Nutrients like Carbohydrates, Proteins, Fats, Vitamins should be an important part of our diet for maintaining our health and immunity. If a person will not consume required nutrients their body will become weak and their body will not be able to fight with diseases and viruses.

So if a person wants to maintain a healthy lifestyle one must include all the important and required nutrients in their day-to-day diet and one must consider taking advice from their nutritionist.
