World Egg Day is celebrated every year on the second Friday of October and this year is a special one as it marks the 25th anniversary. On this occasion, we are here to brief you a little about this egg-cellent day!
World Egg Day History
The first World Egg Day was observed in the year 1996 at the IEC Vienna and is celebrated in more than 40 countries across the globe on the second Friday of October, this year being on October 8.
Eggs have been a great source of protein to humankind and its origin dates back to 7500 BC when it was consumed by man first.
Not only are they a great source of protein but they also provide us with essential vitamins like D, B6, B12, and also minerals like zinc, copper, and the power source iron. Especially the yolk supports us with vitamins like A, D, E, and K. It is also rich in lecithin.

World Egg Day has been celebrated to raise awareness about the benefits of eggs and bring about the need to keep the egg business secured.
Eggs are considered good for the heart. They increase the levels of LDL protein in your blood which reduces the chances of heart attacks and strokes. They are a great source of antioxidants which in turn help your eyes and reduces the chances of cataracts and other problems related to the eyes.

World Egg Day Theme 2021
The theme for this year’s event is “Eggs for all: Nature’s Perfect Package”. As the theme rightly suggests, eggs truly are nature’s perfect package. From babies to adults, eggs have been a source of nutrition for all. It’s a staple food that has managed to feed millions for ages.
This year’s theme will highlight the importance of including an egg in our daily diet. Be it for building muscles or providing that first solid food to a six-month-old, egg is an essential source of nutrients in our bodies.
How is World Egg Day Celebrated?
Though last year the Egg Day celebrations took a digital turn, with the event being held virtually, this year, the day is expected to be celebrated on a larger scale, being virtual as well as in-person. The chairman of the International Egg Commission (IEC), Suresh Chitturi said: “ I think the way everyone handled the unfortunate incident of last year is worth applause and is a true statement of egg industry’s commitment”.
To support this year’s celebrations, the IEC has also developed various graphical pictures and images from previous year’s events and displayed them in order to support the egg industry.
In order to celebrate the 25th anniversary of World Egg Day, there are various things that you can do to have an egg-tastic day. So, here we are to bring to you a list of activities on this occasion:
- You can involve your day in an egg fest. This can be done by spending your day cooking some lip-smacking egg dishes.
- You can indulge in an egg painting event, where you can paint eggs with different colors and gift it to your friends and loved ones.
- You can go to an all-organic grocery shop and buy some fresh organic eggs.
- You can go to a restaurant and have a tasty egg meal on their menu.
Do you know this recipe is a favorite among the Israelis? This delicious delicacy makes for an amazing breakfast menu. So, let me walk you through the Indian version of its recipe:
- Eggs- 4
- Tomato- 2(small finely chopped)
- Onion- 2 (medium finely chopped)
- Salt (to taste)
- Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
- Red chili powder ½ tsp
- Garam masala ½ tsp
- Turmeric Powder a pinch
- First, take a pan and put some oil. Add some onion and ginger garlic paste. Fry it on a low flame until the raw smell of the ginger garlic paste goes down and the onion turns golden brown.
- Then add the tomatoes. Let it cook covered until the tomatoes leave the oil on the sides.
- Then add the masala as per your convenience and fry it.
- Now make 4 blocks of spaces and add the eggs in between those spaces.
- Now cover it with a lid and let it cook.
- Open the lid and your delicious Shakshuka is ready to eat!
