The theme of World Environment Health Day 2022 is “Strengthening Environmental Health Systems for the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals”.
History of World Environment Health Day
This year was established in the year 2011 by the International Federation of Environmental Health (IFEH). It is a body of 44 member states. The main aim behind this day was to ensure the well being of our environment. World Environment Health Day celebration started in 2011 at IFEH meeting and inaugural event of Environmental Health Youth Summit in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia.
Environmental Health is interlinked with public health. In order to improve environmental health, every country needs to make efforts on their level. The countries have to work together in the direction of reducing water illness, toxic chemical exposure, illness prevention among other things.
IFEH has been actively working for more than 32 years to improve the health issues that constantly threaten human well-being and to promote the study of environmental health.
Significance of World Environment Health Day
The World Environment Health Day has a huge significance. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), we can prevent one quarter of the global burden of disease by healthier environments. A healthy environment consists of prerequisites like clean air, sound agricultural practices, proper sanitation, hygienic environment, stable climate, clean water, protection from radiation, safe use of chemicals, healthy and safe workplaces, and a preserved nature.
The World Environmental Health Day provides humankind with an opportunity to understand environmental health issues and their preventive measures.
