Kangana Ranaut starring Thalivi is a biopic of former chief minister of Tamil Nadu J.Jayalalithaa. The movie is all set to release soon on September 10. Jayalalithaa was an actress turned politician and was very successful in both the field especially in a male-dominant world.

Thalaivi movie is directed by A.L.Vijay. It was officially launched on Jayalalithaa’s birth anniversary in 2019. The film is produced by Shailesh R Singh, Vishnu Vardhan Induri, and  Brinda Prasad under the banner of Zee Studios, Gothic Entertainment, Sprint Films, Vibri Motion Pictures. The film is releasing in all three languages Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.

Initially in Hindi and Telugu, the film name was Jaya but, later the makers of the film changed its name to Thalaivi in all Hindi, Telugu, and Tamil languages.

The official trailer received an amazing response from the fans and critics, everyone calling it theaters audiences film but delayed due to 2nd wave of Corona and still facing the issue, as audiences not preferring the cinema due to critical time.

Theatrical and OTT Release Date

Initially, the film was to release on 26 June 2020 but due to the covid-19 pandemic release date was rescheduled many times, and finally, the makers of the film have officially declared the release date on 10 September 2021. The film is also going to release on the OTT platforms Netflix and Amazon Prime after a month or 4 weeks later of the theatrical release of the film. This is the first film in India that is going to release simultaneously on two OTT platforms.

According to Kangana Ranaut & PinkVilla Report, Thalaivi will be released to Netflix & Amazon Prime Video, and the rights sold in Rs 55 Cr. Kangana also told that the movie can’t have a direct OTT release like other films.

Budget & Screen Count

As per the sources, the budget of the film is expected to be around 50 cr. but Kangana told in a video published on her Instagram that the budget of the film is 90 cr. and request people to go to the cinema to watch her movie.

The film will be released on approx. 1700 screens worldwide, 1500 screens in India, and 200 screens overseas. Though the makers of the movie didn’t disclose anything so far.

Controversy

Although, the makers of the film had already taken permission from Jayalalitha’s nephew. The Madras High Court gave approval to the former C.M’s niece to take legal action against the film producer and director. In a plea filed by Jayalalitha’s niece on releasing the movie without her consent. As she claimed that she is the legal heir of Jayalalithaa, the makers of the film should have sought her consent before making the film.

Kangana has worked so hard to fit in the former C.M’s role as she has to sport four looks. She has gained 20 kilos of weight for the film. She also learned Bharatnatyam from the dancer Gayathri Raghuram.

Thalaivi Music

G.V Prakash Kumar has given the music for the film. The songs are “Chali Chali”, “Teri Ankhon Me”, “Nain Bandhe Naino Se” all three songs are penned by Irshad Kamil. Cinematography is done by Vishal Vittal and the writer of the Hindi version of the film is Rajat Arora.

Thalaivi film should take an opening day with the 1 crore mark because only 40% of the market is currently opening. If there will be the rule of 50% occupancy it may be less as we predict, like night shows not being allowed in some states in India like Maharashtra.

Will Thalaivi be Hit or Flop?

Rs. 70-90 Cr.
