Uttarakhand: Bus falls into gorge, 4 dead

In a bus accident that took place on Tuesday at least four people were killed and 21 others injured. Condition of seven among them is said to be critical. They have been referred to the higher center in Kotdwar(Uttarakhand).

As per SHO Satpuli, A GMOU bus going from Baijro to Kotdwar lost control near Seela Karba village in Reethakhal and fell into a 500-meter deep gorge.

The ill-fated bus got badly damaged in the accident. Police have confirmed the death of four people on the spot. Upon receiving the information SDRF team along with Satpuli and Gumkhala police launched the rescue operation. SDM Lansdowne also rushed to the spot.

Among the deads is the driver of the bus Vinod Bahuguna (Kotdwar), Niharika (14), resident of Simbalchaid (Kotdwar) and two other unidentified passengers.

The injured persons include Jyoti Roy (43) Kotdwar, Om Prakash (26) Pokhra, Ashish (23) Kalasu (Reethakhal), Sabra (65) Ida Talla Ekeshwar, Hempel Singh, Umra Devi, Asha Devi, Arti (10), Pancham Singh (24) Nonsain, Kuldeep Gusain (50) Kandai, Sarvar (18) Bihar, Rihan (18) Bihar, Rameshwar (22) Thalisain, Sabar Singh (34) Sangalakoti, conductor of the bus Mukesh Lakhera (34) Dugadda, Dilbar Singh (59) Bironkhal, Bhagat Singh (57), Annu (27) Dehradun, Nazir (20) Bihar and Satish Singh.

All the injured persons were brought to govt. hospital Satpuli and Hans Hospital from where Om Prakash, Ashish, Sabra Devi, Hempel Singh, Umra Devi, Asha Devi, and Arti were referred to higher center in Kotdwar.

About 20 to 22 passengers were on the bus at the time of the accident. This is yet another accident within a span of four days. Three days back an Alto car had fallen into a deep gorge near Satpuli in which two people were killed.
