Lalu Prasad Yadav, the former Chief Minister of Bihar, has been granted bail in one of the fodder scam cases, but he will remain in jail as he has to serve a sentence in two other cases.
The former Chief Minister of Bihar Lalu Prasad Yadav has been going through a tough time since the last few months.
However, this Friday brought a bit of relief for him as he was granted bail in one of the fodder scam cases. However, the popular figure in Bihar, Lalu will remain in jail as he has to serve a sentence in two other cases.
The court also directed Lalu Prasad Yadav to submit his passport, but he informed the court that his passport had already expired. His counsel Prabhat Kumar said that they’re seeking bail for him in other cases too on the same ground.
Lalu was granted bail by Justice Apresh Kumar Singh in case of fraudulent withdrawal from Deogarh Treasury for Rs 89.27 lakh. He was granted bail on the ground that he has served almost half of his prison sentence of three and a half years.
Lalu was earlier convicted in four fodder scam cases pertaining to fraudulent withdrawal of money from Chaibasa, Dumka and Deoghar treasuries in Jharkhand.
He secured bail in the Chaibasa case but is still under sentence for the other cases. He is also facing a fifth fodder scam case for fraudulent withdrawal of money from the treasury of Deogarh.
He has been in prison since December 2017 and has now been taken to Rajendra Institute of Medical Science for treatment.
Lalu’s bail has brought excitement among the RJD party, and they said that they knew that the judiciary would give justice to them.
The ruling National Democratic Alliance leaders, on the other hand, said that though Lalu has got bail in one case, he has still not been found innocent in the other cases. They further added that the RJD leaders shouldn’t, therefore, celebrate the bail of their leader.
