After a decent opening day with the collection of 5.04 crores, Sujoy Ghosh’s crime thriller witnessed good growth over the weekend.
The movie saw growth of 69.64% on Saturday. However, on Sunday the evening and night shows were affected by a cricket match between India and Australia. The overall growth on Sunday was just 12.4%.
Badla 3rd day box office collection is 9.61 crores. The total first-weekend collection of the movie stands at 23.2 crores.
1st-day box office collection: 5.04 crores
2nd-day box office collection: 8.55 crores
3rd-day box office collection: 9.61 crores
Despite being a multiplex film, Badla has performed well in mass centres, all thanks to incredible reviews and super positive WOM.
The clash with a Hollywood biggie Captain Marvel is severely affecting Badla. Released on 1900 screens, Captain Marvel earned around 40 crores in the first weekend. Holdover releases Luka Chuppi and Total Dhamaal have also posted good competition to Badla.
Badla 1st weekend box office collection: 6th highest of 2019
With the collection of 23.2 crores in three days, Badla is now the sixth highest opening weekend grosser of 2019. It fails to beat Uri: The Surgical Strike (35.73 crores), Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi (41.35 crores), Gully Boy (72.45 crores), Total Dhamaal (62.4 crores) and Luka Chuppi (32.13 crores).
The first weekend collection of Badla is higher than Amitabh-Taapsee starrer Pink (21.25 crores). It is also higher than 102 Not Out and Mulk.
Badla budget and economics
The total budget of Badla including the promotion and advertising cost is 24 crores. It has already recovered a good amount (approx 15 crores) through satellite and digital rights.
It needs to earn 35 crores to be called a box office hit. With 22.5 crores already in pocket, I am expecting it to earn at least 45 crores in its lifetime.
