Released on Thursday, Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra starrer Kesari has a good extended first weekend at the box office. After a big opening day with the collection of 21.06 crores, the movie remained steady and earned 75+ crores in the first weekend.
As per early estimates, Kesari 4th day box office collection would be around 21 crores. This takes the extended first weekend collection to 77.51 crores.
Kesari First Weekend Collection: Box Office Journey

On the last day of the extended weekend, the movie witnesses good growth despite two big IPL matches. Early estimates suggest that the fourth day (Sunday) collection of the movie would be around 21 crores.
Thus, the first weekend total of the movie stands at 75+ crores. These are the highest opening weekend numbers of 2019 beating the previous best Gully Boy (72 crores).
Kesari budget and box office economics
Kesari budget (promotion and advertising cost) is 100 crores. Here is a look at the verdict of the movie based on its lifetime collection.
Hit – More than 130 crores
Super Hit – More than 150 crores
Blockbuster – More than 220 crores
Now, the big question is, will it stand tall on weekdays. Well, most of Akshay Kumar fans would say yes but I have a different feeling here. Kesari may struggle from Monday as IPL has started. Secondly, the movie has underperformed at the box office after a big opening day.
I am expecting the lifetime collection of the movie to be around 135 crores. Once again, Akshay Kumar failed to capitalize on big opening and has to wait for his first 200 crores grosser.
