On 5 February 2020, the Tamil actor Joseph Vijay was interrogated by the Income Tax officials on the sets of his upcoming film ‘Master’. Post interrogation, IT officials began raiding his properties in Tamil Nadu. He along with his financier Anbu Chezhiyan together owned 38 properties which were raided by the IT officials on Wednesday. A sum of Rs 65 crores was recovered from all of their properties. The news reporting agency ANI even tweeted pictures of bags filled with cash found at their properties.
First, the IT department raided AGS properties relating to matters concerning the tax evasion where something about Vijay’s salary came up. This lead the officials straight to Vijay and his black money. During the promotions of Vijay’s last film ‘Bigil’, Archana Kalpathi of AGS Entertainments disclosed that the film was made on a budget of Rs 180 crore. The officials had noticed some fishy transactions between Vijay and Anbu that directed them towards the actor’s house on East Coast Road, outside Chennai. The IT officials have been of raiding his properties in Saligramam and Panaiyur while some other questioned Vijay.
The officials have current prohibited Vijay from shooting any further for Lokesh Kanagarj’s ‘Master’ until the matters concerning his whopping fees for ‘Bigil are cleared. ‘Bigil’ went on to become Vijay’s biggest hits but also gathered IT department attention. The Income Tax Department has not issued an official statement. Vijay is currently being held by IT officers in Neyveli in Tamil Nadu.
