Superstar Rajinikanth to be honored with Icon of golden jubilee at IFFI 2019

The ‘Thailaiva’ of Indian cinema, super Rajinikanth is due to be honoured with the ‘Icon of the Golden Jubilee’ at the 50th International Film Festival of India to be held in Goa from 20th – 28th November 2019.
The Information and Broadcast Minister of India, Prakash Javadekar announced the good news on his Twitter account. The humble star responded with a thank you tweet mentioning how honoured he was to have been the chosen one for the prestigious award.
In recognition of his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema, during the past several decades, I am happy to announce that the award for the ICON OF GOLDEN JUBILEE OF #IFFI2019 is being conferred on cine star Shri S Rajnikant.

Some 200 films from around 76 countries and 26 feature and 15 non-feature films in the Indian Panorama section will be screened at the 50th International Film Festival of India (IFFI). The megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s excellent contribution to Indian cinema will also be celebrated with screenings of his most impactful films. The ‘Piku’ star took to Twitter to thank the jury and his fans for loving and honouring his work in the industry. The I & B Minister also announced the International Lifetime Achievement Award to French actor Isabelle Hupert.

Indian Panorama section curated by the IFFI will showcase best of contemporary Indian feature and non-feature films. ‘Hellaro’, a Gujarati period drama film, helmed by Abhishek Shah is due to become the opening feature film of the Indian Panorama in 2019. The mainstream Bollywood films like ‘Badhaai Ho’ starring Ayushmann Khurrana, ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ featuring Vicky Kaushal, India’s official entry to Oscars 2019 ‘Gully Boy’ and Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Super 30’ are some of the 26 chosen films to be screened under the feature film section at the IFFI 2019. Another Indian film, ‘Nooreh’, directed by Ashish Pandey has been selected as the opening non-feature film of the Indian Panorama, 2019.

The festival will also showcase 12 prominent films in different languages that have completed 50 years in 2019. The festival will also have special film screenings for the visually impaired attendees who are unable to ‘experience the real cinema’. Special audio description versions of the films have been introduced as one of the first steps.
IFFI is among the most prestigious festivals in India and is also the first International Film Festival held anywhere in Asia. A heavy footfall of about 10,000 cinema lovers and creators from around the world is expected at the Golden Jubilee of IFFI.
