Kailash Vijayvargiya defends his son for assaulting govt employee

Kailash Vijayvargiya said that both Akash and the assaulted municipal officer Dhirendra Singh Bais were novice players.

Kailash Vijayvargiya, the BJP general secretary, defended his son MLA Akash on Monday by saying that he is a ‘Kachha Khiladi” (novice player). Akash had beaten up a government employee with a bat last week.

Akash is a first time MLA and he along with his supporters, had chased away an Indore Municipal corporation officer while he was on an anti-encroachment drive on June 26th. Kailash Vijayvargiya termed this incident as an unfortunate one and stated that he thinks that there was mishandling from both sides. He said that the issue wasn’t as big as it’s been projected.

“It is very unfortunate. I think there was mishandling from both sides. Kachhe khiladi hain [They are novice players], Akash ji bhi aur nagar nigam commissioner. It wasn’t a big issue but it was made huge.”

He also said that the civic officials should listen to what Akash was saying as he is an elected representative and shouldn’t have shown ignorance. He further alleged mishandling of this situation by the civic body.

On the issue of the demolition of a building which led to the fight, Kailash Vijayvargiya said that he has served in the government as a councillor, mayor and minister, but he has never heard of an order to demolish a building during rains.

“I was once a councillor, mayor and minister of the department. We don’t demolish any residential building during rains. I don’t know if an order for the same was issued by the government. If it wasn’t, it’s a fault on their part,” Kailash Vijayvargiya said.

He also said, “If a building is being demolished anyway, then arrangements are made for the residents to live in a ‘dharamshala’. There was mishandling from the Nagar Nigam. Women staff and women police should have been there. It was immature. This should not happen again.”

On the day of the incident, Akash was arrested but was later granted bail by the court on Saturday. After he was released, Akash said that he is not guilty of what he did. He couldn’t think of anything else as women were being mistreated.

Akash said that he does not regret his actions, but will try to walk on the footsteps of Gandhi henceforth. While he was speaking to the press on Sunday, his supporters were always chanting slogans of his bravery.
