Education
Irrfan Khan struggled with a financial crisis during his school life. Irrfan wanted to become a cricketer and was selected for C K Nayudu Tournament but had to back out owing to lack of funds.
He later developed an interest in acting while pursuing a Master in Arts degree in Jaipur and received a scholarship for Diploma in Dramatic Arts at National School of Drama, New Delhi.
After completing his diploma, he moved to Mumbai to pursue a full-time career in acting.

Irrfan Khan was pursuing a diploma course in acting at National School of Drama where he met Supata Sikdar for the first time. Sutapa was studying acting as well but was ambitious to become a scriptwriter.
The two became friends and during the three years of togetherness at National School of Drama, they fell in love with each other. The marriage was on cards but they were more inclined towards settling their career in their respective fields.
However, their ambitions never got in way of their love and after achieving recognition as an actor, Irrfan Khan decided to marry Sutapa in the year 1995. They had a simple court marriage in presence of close friends and relatives.
Debut to Super Stardom
After completing a diploma in dramatic arts, Irrfan Khan relocated to Mumbai to pursue a career in acting and appeared in numerous television series and shows.
Irrfan Khan was at the top of his television career when Mira Nair offered him a brief role in her movie Salaam Bombay!. However, his role was removed from the movie during the final editing.
In 1990, Irrfan Khan made his big screen acting debut with the movie Ek Doctor Ki Maut and appeared in many other critically acclaimed movies but failed to receive recognition.
He made an appearance in his first commercial movie Maqbool directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and his performance was praised in another Bollywood movie Rog. Irrfan won his First Filmfare Award for playing an antagonist in the movie Haasil.
Irrfan Khan gained his much-awaited recognition after portraying a character in Life in a… Metro, for which he received Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award. His performances in the movies like Slumdog Millionaire, New York, Paan Singh Tomar gave him one of the finest actors’ tag and gained him the opportunity to work in Hollywood movies as well.
Irrfan worked in the third season of American television drama In Treatment and played a brief role in The Amazing Spider-Man. He also played an adult version of the lead character in critically acclaimed Hollywood movie Life of Pi. His movie The Lunchbox won numerous awards at International film festivals like Cannes.

1- Irrfan Khan stirred a major controversy when he questioned Islamic rituals and claimed that people have forgotten the real meaning behind Muslim festivals. Muslim clerics slammed him for making such comments about his own religion and asked him to keep his mouth shut for the betterment of his acting career.
2- Irrfan Khan attracted controversy when he opened up on casting couch in the acting industry and claimed that he had been asked to sleep with male and female directors to get work but he denied. He also said that such incidents were happening to both the genders but women faced it more.
3- Irrfan Khan has been detained twice at Los Angeles airport because of his Muslim name resembling terror suspect.
Good Habits
Irrfan Khan is very determined for his work and he often rejects major work projects for his past commitments. He has supposedly rejected Hollywood offers for movies like Interstellar and The Martian. Irrfan is also a family man and one of very few actors who hasn’t been linked with his costars.
