Nawazuddin Siddiqui did his initial schooling at B. S. S. Inter College Budhana, Uttar Pradesh. He completed his graduation in Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry honours at Gurukul Kangri Vishwavidyalaya, Haridwar. Nawazuddin Siddiqui started acting in plays to secure his admission at National School of Drama. After graduating from the National School of Drama, he relocated to Mumbai to pursue a full-time acting career. Nawazuddin made his commercial acting debut with a small in Amir Khan’s movie Sarfarosh. He later appeared in short roles in a number of movies like Shool, Jungle, Munnabhai MBBS and Dev D.
His first notable performance was in the movie Kahaani starring Vidya Balan in the lead role. Nawazuddin later appeared in Anurag Kashyap’s dark comedy Gangs of Wasseypur which gained him much recognition.
