Asia Cup is a men’s One Day International and Twenty20 International cricket tournament. It was established in 1983 by Asian Cricket Council (ACC). The sole aim of the Asia Cup was to promote goodwill between Asian countries.

The first Asia Cup was held in 1984 in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates where the council’s offices were based (until 1995). The Asian Cricket Council was diminished in size in 2015. The International Cricket Council (ICC) declared that starting in 2016, Asia Cup matches would alternate between ODIs and T20 International formats in accordance with the format of upcoming international competitions.

The 16th Asia Cup will be organized by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). In September 2023, Pakistan will host the Asia Cup. The event will feature participation from the five full members of the Asian Cricket Council.

Pakistan to Boycott Asia Cup 2023

Countries like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka rejected Pakistan’s hybrid model for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 tournament. Also, Pakistan might pull out of the 2023 Asia Cup. The BCCI’s refusal to send the Indian cricket team to Pakistan for the forthcoming tournament sparked the debate about which country would host the Asia Cup in 2023.

The Board of Cricket Council of India proposed that the Asia Cup 2023, which is set to take place in September, be staged outside of Pakistan, and now this demand has been accepted by Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. The neighboring countries think it will be impossible, both logistically and financially, to hold the tournament at two distinct locations.

The groups and format of the tournament were announced on 5 January 2023, with the six teams split into two groups of three. A total of 13 matches will be played which include six league matches and six Super 4 games.

Nepal Qualifies for Asia Cup 2023

On Tuesday at the TU cricket ground in Kathmandu, the Nepal cricket team defeated UAE in the final of the ACC men’s premier cup. This is Nepal’s maiden appearance in the Asia Cup, and they won by 7 wickets. With the victory, Nepal will join India and Pakistan in Group A for the Asia Cup, which will be held in September.
