Ganguly slams Team India Selectors for Ignoring Gill and Rahane from ODI Squad for Windies Tour

Following exclusion of players like Shubham Gill and Ajinkya Rahane for Windies tour, former Indian skipper Ganguly expressed displeasure at the decision taken by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee.

A lot of fans were also disappointed by BCCI’s decision to ignore a veteran like Ajinkya Rahane and promising young talent like Shubham Gill for upcoming Windies tour.

Although Rahane’s name was added in the Test squad, Gill was nowhere to be found when MSK Prasad led selection committee announced Indian team for the upcoming Windies tour.

Last week, the MSK Prasad led selection panel announced the Indian squad for all the three formats. All speculations came to a halt as the panel chose Virat Kohli to lead across all formats.

While veteran wicket-keeper MS Dhoni escaped the selection by taking a sabbatical, Rishabh Pant was named as Dhoni’s replacement.

Meanwhile, invincible bowler Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Hardik Pandya have been given the much-needed rest, following a gruelling World Cup 2019.

Much to his dismay, Ganguly said it is about time that the Indian selectors stop making everyone happy and pick the same players across all formats. Picking the best will only make the Indian cricket team consistent in matches to come.

With this say on Twitter, he was taken aback to not see players like Ajinkya Rahane and Shubham Gill who could play all formats.

As of now, India has only inducted youngsters such as Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer among others in order to revamp the ODI squad.

It was surprising that the heavily backed Rahane in the middle order batting style was only named in the Test squad. Rahane has been continuously ignored in the ODI team for the last three years. If he would have been there at no.4 in the WC, the things could have been different.
