ICC World Cup 2019: Virat Kohli reveals team’s mindset ahead of semi-final against New Zealand

During the regulation press conference, Virat Kohli stated that the team isn’t thinking much about tomorrow’s game, the mood is great, everyone is relaxed and confident.

In the first semifinal of the ICC World Cup 2019, India will take on New Zealand. This will be India’s seventh world cup semifinal, while ‘Black Caps’ will be playing their eighth world cup semi-final.

During the regulation press conference before the semifinal, Virat Kohli stated that the Indian cricket team is not thinking much about the game that will happen tomorrow as it might end up generating mental pressure in the team, even though the team is well equipped and can handle the pressure.

“The mood is great, everyone is relaxed and confident. All teams work hard to get to these moments. Now whoever plays well on the day wins. It’s been a lot of hard work and intense games. There’s only opportunity that lies in front of us,” Virat said.

When asked how he feels about playing the semifinals against the players of who was there when he led the under 19 Indian cricket team to victory, he said that he had never imagined that someday this would happen.

He further stated, “A lot of players from that World Cup from our batch, from their batch, from other teams as well, made it to their national teams & are still playing. I think it is a nice memory. He nor I could have ever anticipated that one day, this will happen.”

During the press conference ahead of one of the most crucial matches for India, Kohli was in a light and a jovial mood. Though Kohli hasn’t bowled during the tournament, he is ready to do it if requires.

During the press conference Kohli commenting on the five-bowler strategy that has worked well for the Indian cricket team.

Kohli said, “We played with five bowling options because it gives more depth in batting. I can bowl anytime. I am lethal as long as I don’t slip on the pitch. We are up to reviewing that. Five bowlers have worked well.”

While discussing the importance of toss and how crucial it is, he said that they (the Indian cricket team) are not worried about the toss, they are prepared, that for the Team India, there is pressure and opportunity in every game, and they are ready to handle it, but a world cup semi-final is different.

While discussing the opponents Kohli said that none of the players is taking the opponent team lightly despite the fact that they have lost the last three matches, they are a strong side, and Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor are very important players which the Indians would like to get early.

While commenting on his personal game, Kohli stated that he is happy in doing what the team wants him to do and he is not bothered if he hasn’t scored a century.

When asked about Rohit Sharma’s performance, Virat Kohli said, “I hope that he scores two more centuries in this world cup.”
