India’s Tejaswin Shankar won India’s first medal in athletics at the commonwealth games, where he earned a bronze medal in the men’s high jump final. It was Tejaswin’s first time in four years where he was competing for India and he nailed a landing of 2.22m to finish the podium.
Who is Tejaswin Shankar?
Tejaswin Shankar was born on 21st December, 1998 and he holds a national record in the high jump of 2.29 metres which he set in april 2018. Tejaswin also won a gold medal in commonwealth youth games in the year 2015, which was conducted in Apia.
He also won a silver medal in South Asian Games 2015 held in Guwahati with a leap of 2.17 metres. Due to a groyne injury, he finished sixth at the Asian Junior Championships and he was not able to play at the World Junior Championships 2016.
And this is the first time in Four years where Tejaswin was competing for India.

And he believes this is India’s first medal in high jump in Commonwealth Games history.”

With this historic win so far India has won 18 medals in total 5 gold, 6 silver and 7 Bronze.
