The governing body of world football FIFA, has banned India for undue interference by a third party. It is happening for the very first time since the Indian Football Federation was formed in the year 1937.
Reason of the ban
From May 18, 2022, The All India Football Federation is being run by a Committee of Advisors (COA) which were appointed by Superme Court of India after removing Praful Patel and his executive committee whose term ended back in December, 2020.
And according to FIFA The appointment of Committee of Advisors is considered third-party interference and it goes against the statutes of FIFA that asks all the countries to manage their affairs independently.
The effects of this Ban on Indian Football
With this suspension no Indian Football team will be able to any of the International matches till the upliftment of the Ban.
And the worst news for India is that it will loose the hosting Rights of U-17 women’s World-cup which is scheduled to start from 11th to 30th October this year. Although the world football federation FIFA has said that the tournament cannot currently be held in India because of the suspension but has left a door of hope by not announcing a new host.
Although all the teams can play matches within the country like The Durand Cup has recently started.
How will this ban be uplifted?
According to the official statement by FIFA, “The suspension will be lifted once an order to set up a committee of administrators to assume the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee has been repealed and the AIFF administration regains full control of the AIFF’s daily affairs.”
Once the All India Football Federation (AIFF) adheres completely to the FIFA Statutes, the FIFA will uplift the Suspension.
