“Nothing”, a London-based technology company founded by former OnePlus founder Carl Pei, has finally launched its Android smartphone Nothing Phone (1) globally on July 12, 2022 evening. Starting price of the phone in India is Rs. 32, 999.
It is the most-awaited Android model that people were really excited about. It features a dual rear camera setup that includes a 50 megapixel primary lens and 50 megapixel ultra-wide lens with a Samsung JN1 sensor.
Meanwhile, a few Hours after its launch, the hashtag #DearNothing started trending on twitter in India and since then, the brand has been facing a huge criticism from People of South India as well as the YouTubers of its Tech community.
What Actually Happened?
People really need to understand that not everything you see on the internet and on YouTube is true, and if you are something, first you should really get into the task of verifying things. What happened in this case is the perfect example of it.
Actually, the hashtag #DearNothing started trending after a popular tech YouTuber, who has a YouTube channel “Prasadtechintelugu” shared a video.
The video, meant for a prank, saw the creator unboxing a fake Nothing Phone (1) which after being opened turned out to be empty with a letter which states “Hi Prasad, this device is not for South India people. Thank you”.
It was written in the same dotted font, which the company used across its promotional material. Actually, Prasad was protesting against the lack of review units of Nothing Phone (1) provided to regional content creators.

Once the screenshot went viral, many users from South India mistook it as an official letter from the company which led to a flood of angry tweets and criticism with accusations of Nothing favoring Hindi content creators over the regional ones.
People are still unaware of it and hashtag #DearNothing along with #BoycottNothing is still trending on Twitter in India.
