In a tragic incident that took place in Halduchaur on Wednesday, a forest guard (Van Daroga) was run over by Shatabdi Express. He was identified by his service card that was found in his pocket.
As per reports, people came to know of this incident at around 11 A.M. in the morning when they saw the dead body of a man cut to pieces and lying on the railway track behind Haldu Reliance Pump. Later, the deceased was identified as Balkrishna Ram of Kusumkhera in Haldwani. On receiving the information, the police rushed to the spot and started an investigation. It is still a matter of suspense whether this is a case of accident, suicide or murder.
Elsewhere in two separate road accidents, two people were killed and several others got injured when their vehicles they were traveling in skidded off the road and fell into the gorges. The first accident took place on Yamunotri Highway while the other on Kedarnath Highway in Rudraprayag. When police reached the spot, the driver of the vehicle Maan Singh was found unconscious.
About half an hour before the accident, he had complained of a chest pain near Ginwadigaon. After the accident, the driver was taken to a nearby Primary Health Center in Augustyamuni by the SHO of Ukhimath where he succumbed to his injuries. The vehicle bearing the registration number UA07S4396 was going to Gaurikund from Rudraprayag. The accident took place near Kakdagad. A total of 8 people were on board the ill-fated vehicle, among them four were Kanwarias.
Most of the accidents in Uttarakhand take place due to the hilly terrain and the dilapidated condition of the roads. Besides, roads are very congested at many dangerous points. Within a span of a fortnight, there has been a spate of accidents in the hilly region of Garhwal and Kumaon killing several people.
