A batch of pilgrims met with an accident on Saturday morning when the car they were travelling in fell into a 200 metre deep gorge near Suyalbadi Gangarkot on Bhawali-Almora highway while on their way to Jageshwar shrine from Haldwani.
Two people were killed in this accident while two others sustained serious injuries. This accident took place on Saturday morning when the employees of Uttarakhand State Cooperative Bank, Haldwani were going to Jageshwar Dham to have a ” Darshan” of the God.
Two persons died on the spot in the accident while the other two are critical. They have been admitted to a private hospital in Haldwani. The car of the pilgrims got badly mangled in the accident.
As per police account, four employees of Uttarakhand State Cooperative Bank, Haldwani namely Shyamlal (35), a resident of Golagate on Tanakpur Road, Ankit Danu (28), a resident of Uncha Pul, Haldwani, Dinesh Chandra Pandey (28), a resident of Katgharia, Haldwani and Sanjay Mehra (28), a resident of Pilikothi, Haldwani were going to Jageshwar Dham from Haldwani for a Darshan on Saturday by an Eon car (no. UK 04 AB 1598).
On way to their destination, the car lost control and fell into a 200 metre deep gorge near Suyalbadi Gangarkot at around 8 A.M. in the morning.
One of the pilgrims Dinesh Chandra informed The Branch Manager of the Head Office Harish Pandey about this accident on mobile.
On receiving the information, Khairna police along with the teams of Emergency Service and SDRF rushed to the spot and extricated all the four from the gorge. They were taken to CHC Khairna where Shyampal and Ankit Danu were declared dead.
After primary treatment at the CHC, Dinesh Chandra and Sanjay Mehra were admitted to a private hospital at Bhotiya Padav in Haldwani. SHO, Khairna Asha Bisht has sent the bodies of the deceased to Nainital for a postmortem.
