R Balki’s psychological thriller “Chup-Revenge of the Artist” opened with mixed reviews from the critics and takes a flying start at the box office due to the national cinema day.
It stars Sunny Deol and Dulquer Salmaan in the main lead roles and also has Shreya Dhanwanthary, Saranya Ponvannan, and Pooja Bhatt in key roles. “Chup” marks actor Sunny Deol’s big screens comeback after three and half years. The movie has been in the making for a while and has now graced the cinemas on the occasion of National Cinema Day.

Box Office Collection Day 1
Dulquer Salmaan-Sunny Deol starrer has performed on par on Friday. As per the trade estimations, Chup opened with Rs 2.85 crores at the box office, which is a very good number for a film of its scale.
It will now become an affair of word of mouth, on which the lifetime of the movie will depend further. That said, It has now become 5th best start for Sunny Deol after his previous opening best Yamla Pagala Deewana, Yamla Pagla Deewana2, Ghayal Once Again, and Singh Saab the Great.
Advance Bookings Report Day 1
Due to the national cinema day, the film has recorded outstanding advance bookings for day 1. As of Thursday night, it sold over 2.4L tickets worth Rs 2.21 crores, overall. Note that, the collections was lower as the tickets have been priced at Rs 75 on Friday.

Screen Counts and Budget
Sunny Deol-Dulquer Salmaan starrer is a small-scale film made with a 10 crores budget, reportedly. Earlier it was to release on 600 screens but the response to advance bookings for Day 1 was so encouraging that on public demand screen counts stand at 800 at present, as per a report of Pinkvilla.
