We have seen Ponniyin Selvan-Part One and Vikram wreaking havoc at the box office in 2022. In fact, both movies went on to find a place in the all-time highest-grossing Tamil movie.

1- Movie- 2.0

2.0 stars Rajinikanth in the main lead role whereas Akshay Kumar played the antagonist in the movie. It serves as the standalone sequel to the 2010 blockbuster Enthiran. Directed by S. Shankar, it is the highest-grossing Tamil film of all time.

It was made on a budget of Rs 500-570 crores and amassed in the range of Rs 825-850 crore gross at the box office worldwide (including China gross).

2- Jailer

Rajnikanth’s action-comedy, Jailer came out in theaters on August 10, 2023. Audiences are really liking the movie since it was released in theatres. Nelson Dilipkumar’s direction is well-praised, the film is now 2nd of highest-grossing Kollywood movies of all time.

The movie is about a retired jailer named Tiger Muthuvel Pandian (played by Rajinikanth). He’s looking for his missing son, Arjun. While he searches for his son, he discovers some really surprising things, climax starts here.

3- Movie- Ponniyin Selvan: Part One(PS1)

The long-awaited movie ‘PS-1’ was released in cinemas on Sept 30, 2022, and went on to become the highest-grosser film in the home market, Tamil Nadu.

The movie features Vikram, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, and Sobhita Dhulipala in the key roles.

It took a record-breaking start and went past the 450 crore mark in just 17 days of its release, worldwide. It is said to have accumulated 488-500 Cr gross in its run emerging as the second-highest-grosser Tamil film of all time. The second part of Ponniyin Selvan is set to release in the summer 2023.

4- Movie- Vikram

Directed by Lokes Kanagraj, Vikram is an action thriller movie that features Kamala Hassan, Vijay Sethupathi, and Fahadh Faasil in the main lead roles. The film is the second installment in director Lokesh’s cinematic universe after Kaithi (2019).

‘Vikram’ stands at 3rd position in the list accumulating around 426 crores gross worldwide, it reaped over 200 Cr profits for its distributors.

5- Movie- Bigil

‘Bigil’ is a sports action movie released in 2019, the film has Thalapathy Vijay as the main lead. It is directed by Atlee who earlier collaborated with Vijay in Theri and Mersal. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan will feature in Atlee’s next which is titled Jawan.

It comes at the 4th spot in the list of highest Tamil grosser, made on a budget of Rs 140 crores and accumulated a whopping Rs 310 crores at the BO WW.

6- Movie: Varisu

The 2023 release Tamil film Varisu has done terrific business at the box office. It is a family entertainer, and stars Thalapathy Vijay and Rashmika Mandanna in the main lead roles.

7- Movie: Enthiran

The political action film Sarkar is directed by A.R. Murugados and features Vijay in the main lead role. It is produced by Kalanithi Maran under his Sun Pictures. The film was a Diwali release of 2018 and currently sits at 7th position in the highest-grosser list.

10- Movie- Mersal

Mersal features Thalapathy Vijay, s. J. Suryah in key roles. It is an action thriller, directed by Atlee and produced by N. Ramasamy, Hema Rumani and N. Murali under Thenandal Studio Limited.

The film follows the story of two brothers, a magician, and a reputed doctor. Vijay played a triple role in the movie. Nithya Menon, Kajal Aggarwal, and Samantha Ruth Prabhu are the main lead actress opposite Vijay in the movie.
