The sports drama Jersey seems facing the damage created by the monster KGF2 through its bull run at the box office, firstly the film couldn’t manage to acquire enough screens in the Hindi circuit and the other thing is the dull opening despite the appreciation from the critics.
Shahid starrer raked in only Rs 3.75 Cr on an opening day which was far less than the expected amount by the trade analysts, though there was no buzz for the film regarding the film among the cinephiles, following the advance bookings and the screen counts and Shahid was also gracing the cinemas after the blockbuster Kabir Singh, the film was estimated to collect around over Rs 5 Cr nett in Hindi but failed to do so.
On a further day, the film saw a growth of around 50% and collected as expected around Rs 5.75 Cr nett on Day 2, taking the total collection to over Rs 10 Cr. It was expected that the sports drama will witness the WOM magic on Sunday, but the film showed no growth on Sunday churning out a similar amount to the Saturday Rs 5.75 Cr from the domestic market.
However, the film managed to take the first weekend gross of over Rs 15 Cr, but the film still needs to collect around Rs 25 to Rs 30 Cr nett more to recover its production cost which seems impossible if the same situation continues, it needs effective positive WOM to surge its BOC further.
Jersey collected around Rs 1 Cr gross from the overseas market, taking the total collections over Rs 18 crores. Here, check out the opening weekend box office report:
