Kuthiraivaal is an upcoming Tamil fantasy psychological thriller drama film. It consists of some magical realism elements such as a man with a horse tale, a horse without a tail, and a sky with both a sun and a moon.
Owing to the presence of these elements in the film, it is titled Kuthiraivaal which means Horse’s tale. Only a few films in the Tamil Film Industry are based on magical realism and now this upcoming film has also been added to that list after Aalavandhan, which was released in 2001.
The story of the film is loosely inspired by German-speaking Bohemian novelist Franz Kafka’s novel titled “The Metamorphosis” which was published in 1915 by the Germany-based publisher Kurt Wolff Verlag.
Kuthiraivaal Release Date and Production
The makers of the movie on February 5, 2022, released the official release date of the film through their social media handles, it was stated that the film is going to hit the big screen on Friday, 4th March 2022.
However, now the news regarding the delay in the release date is catching everyone’s attention. Although the makers of the movie haven’t clarified whether these claims are true or not, we could expect the official announcement regarding this in the upcoming days.
The film already had its International premiere at Berlin Critic Film Festival on February 27, 2021, and became the first Indian film to do so. It also premiered at the International Film Festival of Kerala on February 12, 2021, and is open to a positive responses from critics.
The shooting of this much-anticipated movie was commenced in 2018 and the post-production work, which mainly focused on Computer Graphics, was begun in 2019.
Kuthiraivaal Star Cast & Makers
Tamil actor Kalaiyarasan is playing the lead role in the film as Saravanan. The film marks his second collaboration with director Pa. Ranjith, after the 2014 political drama Madras, which was well-received by the audience as well as critics.
Multiple award-winning young actress Anjali Patil who also featured in 2017 black comedy Newton, along with prominent actors Rajkumar Rao and Pankaj Tripathi, is playing the female lead. The film also stars Sowmya Jaganmurthy, Anand Sami, and Chetan in key roles.
The film is directed by Manoj Leonel Jahson and Shyam Sunder while the screenplay is written by G. Rajesh. It is bankrolled by Pa. Ranjith’s Neelam Productions in association with Vignesh Sudaresan’ Yaazhi Films.
If we talk about technical work, cinematography and editing are handled by Karthik Muthukumar and Gridaran MKP respectively. The music and background score of the movie is composed by Pradeep Kumar.
The plot of the Film
The story of the film revolves around a man named Saravanan, a bank cashier who called himself Freud. He one day saw a dream where he witnessed some strange things happening around him which includes a horse without a tail, a sky with both the sun and the moon at the same time.
After waking up from that dream found that he has grown a horse’s tail mysteriously. To figure out the mystery behind his tale he embarked on his journey through dreams, illusions, and memories encountering some strange and peculiar characters.
