Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea, is an upcoming South Indian Malayalam-language historical film written and directed by Priyadarshan. Ani Sasi has co-written the Screenplay. Aashirvad Cinemas and Moonshot Entertainments and Confident Group are producing the film.
The Principal Photography of the Film Marakkar began in December 2018 and was completed in March 2019. The film was mainly shot at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad.

Priyadarshani directed film Marakkar is one of the most expensive Malayalam films ever made. The budget of the film is 50 crore. The film is made on a big Budget with big stars on it, might release soon after its theatrical release on 2nd December.

Marakkar Release Date
The film was first scheduled for release on 26 March 2020. The release was postponed due to the COVID-19 situation and lockdown happened and theatres were closed.
The film was then again scheduled for theatrical release on 12 August 2021 but was postponed again because of Lockdown effects. The official announcement of the film Release Date has been confirmed, Superstar Mohan Lal promises a big movie to release in theaters.

OTT Release
Recently, after weeks of discussion, where to release the film ‘Marakkar’, producer Antony Perumbavoor has decided to release the film ‘Marakkar’ on OTT. Meeting with film distributors failed to convince the producer of the film for the theatrical release of the film.
The producer Antony has demanded from the distributors that the theatre owners should pay an equal amount offered by the OTT platform. However, FEUOK president disagreed with him. The film will be released on Amazon Prime but still, the official confirmation is yet to be confirmed.
Marakkar Plot
The film is Set in the 16th century and tells the story of a naval commander Kunjali Marakkar IV of Samoothiri, who is famous and well known for defending the Malabar Coast against the Portuguese Invasion. The film is all set to release with a great storyline on OTT this year.
