Noted Actor-Filmmaker Pratap Pothen passed away at the age of 70, he reportedly found dead at his residence in Chennai on Friday morning. Pratap Pothan has worked in more than 100 films including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi.

Pratap Pothen was on born on 13 August 1952 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He completed his School education from Lawrence School, Lovedale in Ooty and for his graduation he went to Madras Christian College.
After graduation Pothen worked with ad agencies as a Copywriter in Mumbai.

Pratap worked as an Actor, Film Producer, Scriptwriter, and Filmmaker. Pratap Pothen made his acting debut with the malayalam movie Aaravam in 1978 and some of his notable work include Jeeva, Lucky man, Moodupani, Panneer Pushpangal, Thakara, 22 Female, etc.
Pratap made his directorial debut with the tamil movie Meendum Oru Kaathal Kathai in 1985, for this movie he won the Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Film as a Director.

Pratap Pothen was married to actress Raadhika in 1985 but they parted ways in 1986. Then in the year 1990 he married Amala Sathyanath who was a corporate professional but even after 22 years of togetherness they separated in the year 2012.

Cause of Death: According to Police reports Pratap Pothen died because of natural health causes.
