Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus is nearing the end of its theatrical run. It was out in theatres on Sept 30 in various languages and opened with flying colors at the box office. It went on to emerge as the all-time 2nd highest-grosser Tamil movie, highest grosser in TN, and the first flick to cross the 200 crore mark in Tn and so on.
It will soon cross 500 crores gross worldwide to become the 2nd Tamil movie after Rajini’s 2.0 the only flick to have achieved this feat. It boasts of powerhouses like Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, and Prakash Raj.

PS1 To finish with 275 Cr lifetime in India
Even after new releases every week, and fewer screen counts/shows, Mani Ratnam’s movie continues to churn out moolah week in and week out. And it has come to an end now in terms of theatrical run. It is estimated to have collected 265 crores nett at the box office in India, all versions, so far.
As per the trade experts’ estimations, from here it will earn 8-10 crores nett more to take its total domestic lifetime collections in the vicinity of 275 crores.
Inching Closer to 500 Crore WW
As per the reports, the worldwide gross collections of Ponniyin Selvan-1 stand at upwards of 480 crores which consist of around 310 crores gross in India and around 170 crores gross overseas.
PS-1 Box Office Collection: ₹ 264.68** crores nett in India, Tamil Nadu (₹ 219.3** crores), Telugu (₹ 15** crores), Hindi (₹22.91** crores), Malayalam (₹ 7.44** crores)
As per the early trade estimations, it will collect 25-30L on Day 32 (5th Mon) to take the total domestic collections to 264.7 crores.
