The Primetime Emmy Awards- part of the wide range of Emmy Awards are bestowed by the Academy of Television Art & Sciences  (ATAS), in recognition of excellence in the U.S. American primetime television programming.

This year marks the 74th edition of the Emmy Awards and the annual event was held on Monday, September 12, 2022 at the Microsoft Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, California.

The event of this year honoured the television programming from June 1, 2021 until May 31, 2022 and their nominations were announced on June 12, 2022.

The ceremony was produced by Done and Dusted and Hudline Entertainments, and was directed by Hamish Hamilton with actor-comedian Kenan Thompson serving as the host for the event.

Here is the list of web-shows which won 74th Emmy Awards:

1- Succession (HBO/HBO Max)

Created by Jesse Armstrong, satirical black comedy drama series Succession grabbed the highest honour of the night with “Outstanding Drama Series’ ‘. HBO’s critically acclaimed series. It led the pack of 25 nominations for the Emmy Awards and ended up winning the prestigious award in 3 categories with other being Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Matthew Macfadyen).

The series is produced by HBO in association with Project Zeus, HyperObject Industries, Gary Sanchez Productions. It premiered in June 2018 and has delivered its 3 episodes so far.

2- The White Lotus (HBO/HBO Max)

The anthology series is created by Mike White and it has a stunning night, taking home 10 Emmys in total, the most overall, including “The Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series”. The 6-part limited series premiered on June 11, 2021 and received critical acclaim and high ratings. The show’s success led HBO renewing it as an anthology series, with a second season scheduled to premiere in October 2022.

3- Ted Lasso (Apple TV+)

Sports comedy drama television series Ted Lasso ended up winning four awards in the event including “Outstanding Comedy Series” and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Jason Sudeikis.

The series is developed by Sudeikis along with Bill Lawrence, Brendan Hunt and Joe Kelly. The first season consisting of 10-episode,  premiered in August 2020 and the 12-episode second season premiered in July 2021. In October 2020, the series was renewed for its season 3.

4- Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls (Prime Video)

American reality television series Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls series received six nominations at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards and won three out of them including “Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Competition Program”. The series follows 13 women who are competing to be dancers for singer Lizzo, who also hosts the show.

5- Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO/HBO Max)

Hosted by comedian John Oliver, American late-night talk and new satire television program “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” won the “Outstanding Variety Talk Series” award at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards.

The half-hour long show premiered in April 2014 on HBO whereas the 9th season premiered on February 20, 2022. It is directed by Joe Perota, Christopher Werner, Jim Hoskinson, Paul Pennolino and Bruce Leddy.

6- Saturday Night Live (NBC)

American late night television sketch comedy and variety show Saturday Night Live won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series. Created by Lorne Michaels and developed by Dick Ebersol, the show, throughout the decade received a number of awards including 87 Primetime Emmy Awards, 6 Writers Guild of America Awards and 2 Peabody Awards.

7- Hacks (HBO Max)

Hack is an American Comedy drama series created by Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs and Jen Statsky. It won 5 nominations in the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards and ended up winning Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Jean Smart.

The series premiered on May 12, 2021 and premiered its 10 episodes. In June 2021, the series was renewed for the second season which premiered on May 12, 2o22. It has already been renewed for the third season.

8- Squid Games (Netflix)

Squid Games is one of the popular and superhit series of 2021. Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk for Netflix, the South Korean survival drama series received 14 nominations including Best Drama, making it the first non-English language work to be nominated in this category at the Primetime Emmy Awards of this year. Lee Jung-Jae won the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and it is the first time an Asian won this award for a non-English work.

9- Euphoria (HBO/HBO Max)

Based on the Israeli miniseries of the same name, Euphoria is an American teen drama television series created and principally written by Sam Levinson for HBO. It premiered in June 2019 and won critical acclaim.

The second series premiered on January 9, 2022 and after a month, in February, it was renewed for a third season. The series’ main character is Rue Bennett, which is played by young and promising actress Zendaya. The actress won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards.

10- Ozark (Netflix)

American crime drama series Ozark received positive reviews from the critics and fans throughout its run with particular praise for its tone, direction, production values and performances. The first season of the series premiered in July 2017, with the second season in August 2018,  and the third season in March 2020.

The fourth season was released in two-parts with the first part being released in January 2022 and the second part was released on April 29, 2022. At the 7th Primetime Emmy Awards event, the show’s one of the key stars- Julia Garner received the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Supporting role. It is the third time she won the award for the same category.
