IIT Bhubaneswar: The Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneshwar (IITBBS), also known as IIT Bhubaneswar, is one of the eight second-generation IITs established in 2008. It is a public technical university and is the first among the new IITs to become operational. IITBBS is given the status of an ‘Institute of National Importance’ by the MHRD, and is approved by AICTE.

The institute consists of seven schools offering courses in various disciplines at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral level. NIRF has ranked the university 47th for engineering in 2023. The flagship courses at IIT Bhubaneshwar are B.Tech. and M.Tech.

The institute offers admission to B.Tech. courses through the ranks achieved in JEE Advance. The highest package offered in IITBBS in the campus placement of 2023 is INR 55.75 LPA.

Important Dates

Entrance Exam 

The institute accepts scores from national-level entrance exams (IIT-JEE) for its flagship course, B.Tech. A student is required to pass national or state-level exams for all other courses. IITBBS offers the following courses through the given entrance exams:

• B.E./B.Tech – JEE Mains + JEE Advanced + JOSAA Counseling.
• M.E./M.Tech – GATE + COAP Counseling/JEE Main/JEE Advanced/CUET PG/OJEE.
• M.Sc – IIT-JAM+CCMN Counseling.
• Ph.D. – GATE/ UGC NET/IIT JAM.

Cut-off 

JoSAA releases the cutoff for various B.Tech courses offered by IIT Bhubaneshwar. B.Tech. seats are allotted during JoSAA counselling on the basis of JEE Advanced ranks, and for M.Tech. and M.Sc., they are allotted during COAP and CCMN counselling, respectively. The student’s rank, the number of seats available, the number of applicants, etc. are some of the factors that affect the cutoff.

The institute started under the mentorship of IIT Kharagpur and is now functioning as an autonomous body recognised by the UGC. NIRF has ranked IIT Bhubneshwar 47th for engineering and 91st overall in 2023. The Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF) has ranked the college 36-193 for Engineering.

Globally, the QS World University Rankings have ranked the university 731–740, 301-350 in Asia, and 65th in Southern Asia in 2023. Times Higher Education has ranked the institute 1001–1200th in the World University Rankings 2023.

IIT Bhubaneswar Infrastructure

The main campus has been functioning since 2015 and covers an area of 936 acres. IIT Bhubneshwar is located at the foot of Barunei Hill in Bhubneshwar, Orisha. The Biju Patnaik International Airport is the nearest airport to IIT Bhubaneswar and is located at a distance of 35 km. The nearest railway station to the institute is Khurda Road Junction station, located at a distance of 8 km.

The campus has all the necessary infrastructure and basic amenities for students and faculty members. IITBBS is the first IIT to set up a separate marine campus. The main campus comprises an academic area, a residential area, an area for Training centres, and a research park. The amenities include a central library, lecture hall complex, community hall, guest house, outdoor and indoor sports facilities for badminton, football, basketball, table tennis, and gyms.

How to Apply for IIT Bhubaneswar 2023

JoSAA looks over the seat allotment in B.Tech courses at IITBBS. JoSAA considers ranks in JEE Advance, and a student has to register through JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. The process for applying to the B.Tech course of your choice at IIT Bhubaneswar is as follows:

• The first step is to register and qualify for JEE Mains through the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in.
• Next, you need to register for JEE Advanced using the JEE Mains log-in ID.
• Now appear for the JEE Advanced and qualify with an AIR to maximise your chance at IIT Bhubaneswar.
• After clearing JEE Advanced, you have to register for JOSAA counselling for choice filling.
• You are to use your JEE Mains application number and password for registration.
• Check and correct the details, upload the requested documents, and submit the form.
• Fill in your preferred college, IIT Bhubaneswar, along with your specialisation on the next page.
• Final confirmation of seat allotment will take place after the completion of document verification and fee payment.

Application Fees

Candidates have to pay the application fees for registration in JEE Mains and Advance. The application fee can be paid via credit card, debit card, net banking, Paytm, or UPI.

IIT Bhubaneswar Placement      

The placement process at IIT Bhubaneswar is currently going on. As per the latest reports, the institute has recorded a placement rate of 82% for B.Tech courses and 84% for M.Tech courses. The highest package offered to a B.Tech. CSE student was INR 55.75 LPA, and the second highest is INR 44.62 LPA for ECE and EE students. The average and median salary for the B.Tech. CSE course was INR 25.18 LPA and INR 20.31 LPA, respectively.
