IIT Gandhinagar: The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar, or IITGN, was established in 2008 as one of the eight new IITs. It is an autonomous public university and is located in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India. The institute is recognised as an Institute of National Importance’ by the MHRD, Government of India.

The institute consists of 13 disciplines and seven centres providing courses at the UG, PG, and Ph.D. levels. The university is accredited and affiliated with UGC and AICTE. NIRF ranked the college 18th in 2023 for its engineering course.

IITGN’s flagship course is B.Tech. and admission to the courses is done on the basis of the rank in national-level exam JEE Advanced. The highest package for the year 2022 was recorded at INR 60 LPA.

The institute offers over 40 courses for admission in the fields of engineering, technology, science, maths, cognitive science, the humanities, and the social sciences. The college also offers PG Diploma courses in eight specialisations and a five-year Integrated MTech programme in two specialisations. Students are admitted to the college mainly on the basis of entrance exams.

Important Dates

Entrance Exam 

Admission to IITGN B.Tech. and M.Tech. is done by a national-level entrance exam, followed by counselling. The institute also conducts entrance exams for some of the courses it offers. Given below are the courses and entrance exam a student needs to qualify for admission to IITGN:

• B.E./B.Tech – JEE Mains + JEE Advanced + JOSAA Counseling.
• M.E./M.Tech – GATE + COAP Counseling.

Cut-off 

The cutoff for B.Tech. courses in IITs is declared by JoSAA after the conclusion of JEE Advanced. The student must go through the JoSAA counselling process for the final seat allotment. Students should hold a high rank in JEE Advanced to get selected for the course of their choice. 

The cutoff is decided after taking the rank of the student, the number of applicants for the course, the availability of seats, the difficulty level of the paper, etc. into consideration. IIT Gandhinagar Ranking

IITGN is a Tier 1 institute and is approved by UGC and AICTE. NIRF 2023 ranked the institute 18th for engineering, 31st for research, and 24th overall in India. The QS World University Rankings for 2023 have ranked the institute 271–280 in Asia and 56th in Southern Asia. Times Higher Education has ranked IITGN 801–1000 in the World University Rankings, 401–600 in the Impact Rankings, and 140th in the Young University Rankings.

IIT Gandhinagar Infrastructure

The IIT Gandhinagar campus is spread over an area of 400 acres on the bank of the river Sabarmati and is located in Palaj village, Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The Ahmedabad Airport is approximately 26 Kms away from the campus. The Ahmedabad Railway Station is also 28 kms away from the campus. The distance between the IIT Gandhinagar and Chandkheda Bus stands is 4 km.

How to Apply for IIT Gandhinagar 2023

Admission for B.Tech. courses at IITs take place through JOSAA. A candidate has to apply through JEE Mains and JEE Advanced with a valid rank to be able to get admission to IITGN. The process mainly consists of registration, form filling and uploading of documents, along with payment of application fees.

• Apply for JEE Mains through the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in, and qualify. 
• You are required to appear for the JEE Advanced and qualify with an AIR to be able to be admitted to IIT.

The institute provides scholarships to students on the basis of merit, especially from financially weaker sections. IIT Gandhinagar Placement

IITGN has released placement statistics for the years 2022–23. The B.Tech. placement has ended, and the average package offered stood at INR 19 LPA. Engineering and Technology recorded 32.9% of offers. Some of the main recruiters for 2023 were Accenture, Cred, D.E. Shaw, Oracle, Salesforce, etc. 

Earlier, the placement report for 2022 recorded the placement of 92% of B.Tech. students. The highest salary offered in 2022 was INR 62 LPA, and the average package was INR 15.35 LPA. A total of 253 recruiters participated and offered 153 jobs. Some of the top companies in 2022 recruitment were Google, Amazon, HCL, IBM, TCS, etc.
